TENURE TRACK JUNIOR FACULTY POSITION IN HIGH ENERGY PHYSICS at
Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Hawaii at Manoa, to
begin August 1, 2017, pending position approval and availability of funds. The University of Hawaii at Manoa expects to hire a tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level in experimental high energy physics who will lead a program on the Instrumentation Frontier.
The new faculty member should contribute to and enhance the physics
programs of one or more of the Department's efforts in high energy physics and train the next generation of students and postdocs to build experimental devices.
The experimental High Energy Physics Group is involved in studies of
B-mesons (Belle-II/Belle), electron-positron physics at the
tau-charm threshold energy region (BESIII), neutrino physics (DUNE, protoDUNE, short baseline reactor neutrino program, SOX, SuperK, KamLAND/KamLAND-Zen), radio detection of high energy particles (ANITA), direct dark matter detection (DarkSide and directional detectors), Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS-02), GAPS, and advanced detector development for high energy physics. The activities of the high energy theory group include neutrino physics and astrophysics,
physics beyond the Standard Model, dark matter physics, flavor physics
and CP violation, and inflationary cosmology.
Assistant Professor: Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in physics or equivalent, demonstrated accomplishments in the development of HEP instrumentation, interest and ability to teach a broad range of physics courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. Desirable Qualifications: At least three years of post-doctoral experience in physics instrumentation at the time of application, demonstrated ability to supervise student research and a clear plan and ability to attract external funding.
Associate Professor: Minimum Qualifications: In addition to the qualifications for Assistant Professor, four years experience at the assistant professor level, or equivalent, is required. Desirable Qualification: Demonstrated record of extra-mural funding. Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
