Job description
Within the framework of the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF), the Department of Physics is seeking applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in experimental particle astrophysics. The expertise sought includes, but is not limited to, the following fields: dark-matter searches, low-energy neutrino physics, ultra-low background and innovative detector techniques.
The Department of Physics has 31 faculty working in astronomy and astrophysics, biophysics, condensed matter, plasma and particle physics. The Particle Physics Group (GPP) comprises 7 faculty with research focus on ATLAS, BELLE and PICO experiments, and on theoretical particle physics.
Responsibilities
The appointed candidate will be expected to teach at all three levels of the curriculum, supervise graduate students, engage in ongoing research and publication, and contribute to the academic life and reputation of the University.
The Université de Montréal is a member of the Canadian Particle Astrophysics Research Centre (CPARC), a program recently funded by CFREF. A major goal of CPARC includes building a transnational research team contributing to the many diverse requirements of a world-leading particle astrophysics research program. The particle astrophysics group at the Université de Montréal contributes already to this goal through the PICO dark matter search experiment at SNOLAB. The candidate appointed to the present position will have a research program that complements the existing research activities at the Université de Montréal and is well aligned with the research goals of CPARC. In return, CPARC and the Université de Montréal will make available to the appointed candidate significant resources.
